Best CV Format for Jobs in Pakistan

Reverse chronological, functional, or hybrid? Here is which CV format Pakistani recruiters expect and when to use each one.

Start with reverse chronological

For most jobs in Pakistan, list your latest role first and work backward. Recruiters want to see what you are doing now or what you did most recently.

This format works for banking, telecom, retail, and corporate roles from Islamabad to Karachi. It is also what ATS tools expect.

Put company name, job title, city, and dates on each line. Pakistani employers care about tenure: frequent six-month stints raise questions unless you explain contract work.

When a functional CV makes sense

If you are changing fields, for example from teaching to HR, a skills-first layout can help. Lead with a strong summary and core competencies before job history.

Fresh graduates with little paid work sometimes lead with projects and internships. Keep it to one page and still include education near the top.

Avoid hiding employment gaps with a purely functional format. Pakistani interviewers usually ask directly about gaps; a short honest line beats a confusing layout.

Sections Pakistani recruiters look for

Contact details with a Pakistani mobile number (+92), a professional email, and city. LinkedIn is optional but useful for IT and multinational roles.

Education matters here more than in some Western markets. Include degree, university, year, and grades if they help you. O and A Levels, FSc, and university names should be clear.

Skills should be scannable: software, languages, certifications. Separate technical skills from soft skills so nothing gets lost in a long paragraph.

Length and file naming

One page is enough for under five years of experience. Two pages are fine for senior managers, engineers with projects, or people in regulated industries.

Name your file clearly: FirstName_LastName_Resume.pdf. Recruiters receive dozens of files named CV_Final_v3.pdf every week.

Use consistent date format, preferably Month Year to Month Year. Mixed formats look sloppy on a quick screen.
